Richard Smith

  • Headteacher of three successful comprehensive schools – one 11-16 and two 11-18 schools. Each school increased numbers on roll and student achievement during tenure.

  • The OFSTED report described his leadership as “outstanding”.

  • School Achievement award for improved examination results …. 36% - 51% in three years with unchanging base line data.

  • Headteacher involved in and providing leadership within a PFI project (£30m) for the new build of an 11-18 school for 1850 students and extensive community use. Responsible for development of output specifications, development of design with architecture and building teams and for the strategic and short term planning and implementation of the project.

  • Deputy Director of Education (Sheffield) for two years. Responsible for budget, personnel management and strategic planning.

  • Leader of a Management Support Unit (1 year) both planning and delivering support, guidance and training to senior managers in secondary schools throughout the city.

  • Seconded from headship (two terms) to develop training initiatives for senior managers in secondary schools.

  • Delivered training and support sessions to secondary headteachers and LEA advisers on the development and use of base line and achievement data in monitoring student performance and raising student achievement.
