ESDM is unique approach to the management and delivery of change projects within education. It has been developed by a team with years of experience in the leadership and management

Initiate
Pre-Project
- To ensure that the project is useful
- To define in outline the issues to be addressed
- To scope the Feasibility Study work
- To set up the project correctly from the outset
Investigate
Feasibility Study
- To define the change objectives
- To determine (at a high level) whether or not the timescale for the achieving the change(s) is feasible
- To decide who needs to be involved
- To ensure commitment to the consultancy approach
- To identify external factors that may impact open project delivery, e.g. Leadership Incentive Grant or additional funding streams
Management Study
- To define and prioritise the requirements for change
- To define and agree the approach to satisfying the requirements for change
Intervene
Intervention Planning
- To determine what will constitute a successful intervention
- To plan that intervention
Intervention
- To prototype and test the changes required for the intervention to be successful
- To implement those changes
- To train staff
Intervention Review
- To review the success of the intervention
- To recommend any possible future work
Evaluate
Post-Project Review
- To review the success of the project
- To document any lessons learnt
- To recommend any possible future action
- To review the consultancy process
The ESDM process is applicable to many sizes and types of intervention, for example:
- For intervention by the DfES, or a team of contracted consultants, in a Local Education Authority (LEA)
- For intervention by an LEA, or a team of contracted consultants, in its schools or in its own internal systems and organisation
- For a series of interventions by schools or groups of schools in their own internal systems and organisation.
